On this page I'll try to "guide" you through the massive amount of information on video.

The guide starts at the point of retrieving video and getting it onto your PC, up on to the point where you wish to store it on a CD or DVD.

In each section you will find links to the appropriate pages on the WeetHet.nl website.
As you can see, there is still room for some additional articles ;-)

Tip: to "rip" the video file from a VideoCD, look for the AVSEQ.DAT (might have additional numbers in the name) file on the VCD (MPEGAV folder). Simply copy the file to your harddisk and rename the .DAT file to a .MPG file, which results in an MPEG-1 file. The same trick works for Super VideoCD, although the filename might be different. Look in the MPEG2 or the MPEGAV folder. After renaming the file, you will have a nice MPEG-2 file.

Tip: AVI is basically a "shell" around a movie. The format of the actual video and audio data can differ and depend on the so called codecs use. Some DivX files have the extension AVI, some have DivX other again use XviD, etc. XviD is a DivX variant.

See the Video Formats page for more details.

Note: Read the disclaimer!
