Audio
The audio makes an annoying humming sound, why is that ? The shielding of your cables is not OK. Check the cables.
  Can the model 715 model output Dolby Digital 5.1, AC3 and DTS ? Yes, but only by using the digital audio outputs or as a mix-down via the analog outputs.
  Can the model 713 output DTS ? Yes, but only by using the digital audio outputs.
  Can the model 713 output Dolby Digital 5.1 and AC3  ? Yes, both analog and digital.
Audio CD
Can the Yamakawa display CD-TEXT ? No
  Why are some buttons on the remote control of a SEG player reversed. You flashed an Yamakawa firmware. SEG is not 100% compatible.
Under which brandnames are these players sold ? Yamakawa, Tokai, Raite, Monyka, Kiss, Hoyo. See the Yamakawa Intro page.
CD
Can the Yamakawa read multi-session CD's ? Models starting november 1999 can read multi-session. Models prior to november 1999 can only read single-session.
  Can the Yamakawa handle CD-recordables ? Yes, See the Yamakawa Intro page.
  Can the Yamakawa handle CD-rewriteables ? Yes, See the Yamakawa Intro page.
  My CD makes a hell of a noise at spinup, how can I avoid that ? Use CD-rewriteables instead of CD-recordables. The DVD-drive will use a slower spin, thus reducing the noise.

Is there an optical connection for digital audio ? Yes, there is a TOSLINK connection on the back of the player. See the Yamakawa Intro page.

What type of EEPROM is used for the firmware ? AM29F040B-90JC by AMD in PLCC32 form

  While updating I accidently pressed the power button, now my player is dead. What should I do ? Contact your dealer for a new EEPROM, there is no other way to get this blooper fixed.
Menu
Password and Child lock are disabled, how can I enble it ? In the menu press 555 and the menu will be enabled.
How do I display the "Preferences" menu ? Press STOP twice, then press SETUP.
Model
What does the "K" stand for used at some models ? Both the 713 and the 715 are also available as a K-model, meaning Karaoke.
What's the difference between the 713 and the 715 model ? The 713 supports analog output for Dolby Digital 5.1, the 715 model doesn't. See Yamakawa Intro page.
MP3
Can the Yamakawa display MP3-tags ? No
  Can the Yamakawa display long-filenames ? Only ISO9660 mode 1 (8.3 characters) and mode 2 (18 characters - known as romeo mode) are supported. Joliet (Windows9x) is not supported.
  When I play mp3 files, I hear a weird "bird" sound  in the background, is that normal ? No, it isn't. You have a very old firmware version. Please update, see Yamakawa Firmware update page.
  Titles of MP3 songs are only displayed for the first 8 characters, how can I fix this ? Only ISO9660 mode 1 (8.3 characters) and mode 2 (18 characters - known as romeo mode) are supported. Joliet (Windows9x) is not supported.

Video
Can the Yamakawa play NTSC movies on a PAL TV ? Yes
  I'm experiencing trouble using Title/Chapter, what can I do about it ? Firmware 30 is know for this issue. Update Firmware, see Yamakawa Firmware update page.
  How do I copy DVD's to a VHS/VCR ? Disable MacroVision, see Yamakawa Disable MacroVision page.
  The Matrix (DVD) seems to experience playback trouble, how can I fix this ? This appears to be a flaw in the Firmware. Please update your firmware, see Yamakawa Firmware update page.
  Can I disable MacroVision ? Yes, see Yamakawa Disable MacroVision page.
  Can the Yamakawa play PAL movies on a NTSC TV ? Yes
  The video switches from dark to bright continiously, how can I fix this ? Disable MacroVision, see Yamakawa Disable MacroVision page.
  On my 100Hz TV-set I see those MPEG-artifacts in dark areas, how can I remove them ? Set your TV picture to "warm".

  My TV only displays a black image, what's wrong here ? Some older TV-sets do not seem to like PAL/60 or other TV formats. Try playback on a newer TV-set and see if the problem remains.
  What video formats are supported ? DVD, VideoCD and Super VideoCD.
Video/Audio
Video and Audio appear to be out of sync, how can I fix that ? This appears every now and then due to regionfree mode or at playback of an NTSC movie on a PAL TV-set or viceversa. Change region and/or TV-format.
Waranty
What waranty time does the player have ? Usually 1 year.
