IP Address?

Where is my DreamBox?If you have your DreamBox hooked up to a network using a network cable, or used a crossed cable to connect the DreamBox directly to your PC, then your DreamBox should have an IP Address. For more info on how to make and what the difference between these network cables is, please read our network cables article.

An IP Address can either be entered manually (static IP address) or be automatically assigned by your router (DHCP / Dynamic). I guess when you entered a static IP address, that you know what you entered, but then again, we're all human and do forget on occassion.

If the IP Address has been assigned by DHCP, then your router has handed out an IP address to your DreamBox and it can be hard to guess what that number is.

In either way; we'll show you how to find the right IP Address. There are several ways to do this ... this is the least confusing and easiest way.

Note: if you do networking, then please spend a few bucks on a router. They are dirt cheap now-a-days and will save you quite a bit of work and confusion.

Find the IP Address in the DreamBox menu's

The DreamBox menu's have an expert menu where you can read or set the IP Address of your DreamBox. But where is it "hidden"?

Step 1: Click the "menu" button on the remote of your DreamBox and in the menu select "Setup" (or press 6).

Step 2: Select the option "Expert Setup" (or press 6).

Step 3: Select "Communication Setup" from the menu (or press 1).

Step 4: Read or set the IP Address ...

In the Communication Setup window you can enter an IP Address - make sure you unselect "DHCP" first if you wish to enter the address manually. If DHCP is checked, then the "IP:" field will indicate the address your DreamBox received from your router.

DreamBox - Read or Set the IP address of your DreamBox
DreamBox - Read or Set the IP address of your DreamBox

You will see (or should set) the "Nameserver" and "Gateway" is the IP Address of your router.

Tip: use the DreamBox initially using DHCP (default anyway). This way all the fields are prepopulated correctly and if you want a fixed IP Address (definitly handy to always know what that IP Address is) you only need to uncheck "DHCP" and (if needed) enter the desired IP Address.

If you changed anything, then click the green button or move to the "Save" button and click "OK" to exit this menu.
