PAGE OVERVIEW

Most of us have heard about it: RSS, PodCasting, and whatever they came up with for news feeds. What is RSS? More details here ...
But WHAT is RSS really? And how can you set it up for your own website of blog?

Intro to RSS:

Reading RSS Feeds:

RSS Feeds - technical details:

Making RSS Feeds:
Getting out there:

Note: The RSS standard is a standard that seems to be under a constant development, so some things might change, disappear, or be added in the future!

RSS Generators

Well, of course you could type this all manually - hoping you will not make any mistakes ...
But how about those nice tools out there that can do the work for you?

Really, there are loads of RSS generators out there. The DMOZ listing already gives you a nice list.
You can even make one yourself, some examples are already out there on the web.
Like for Visual Studio, or based on components (for example nSoftware, or the free JEDI VCL Components for Delphi, or RSS.NET for .NET).

Then again we're not all programmers, so it's probably easier to start out with a ready-to-go RSS generator.
Tip: look for the most recent RSS Generators by using Google.

FeedSpring does a great job and is free, it's Windows based. ListGarden has applications for Windows, Mac, and Perl - The listgarden page has some more details on how to use the application in fine detail. Since we're talking about open source tools; check out SourceForge.net for their list of freely available RSS Generators fot Java, Mac, Windows, Linux, etc.
Note: SourceForge.net is one of the best places to start looking for Open Source software!

Here a list of more applications you might want to investigate:

AggPub, Alnera FeedWorkshop RSS Editor, BlogSieve, BlogStreet RSS Ecosystem, Broadcast Builder, Community News RSS, ContentSpring, Cosmic Simple RSS, Feed Editor, Feed43, FeedCraft, FeedEdit, Feeder, FeedFire, FeedForAll, feedshark.com, FeedSpring, FeedTier, FeedWrite, FeedXS, FeedYes.com, HitRSS, IceRocket RSS Builder, Instant RSS/XML Feed Generator, My RSS Creator, NewzAlert Composer, OrangeBox, pReSS, RSS Builder, RSS Edit, RSS Editor, RSS Publisher, RSS Writer, RSS Updater, and the list goes on and on ...

RSS Generators are available for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, etc.
But can also be found as a so called web-application; ie. a webpage that generates the feeds for you.
The Klappa RSS Generator can be found here and is webbased, just like the more complex RSSxl, or the RSS Generator from Blog Street which generates feeds from webpages.
