DreamBox - The ultimate Linux based satellite receiverThis page shows you how configured the harddisk that I installed into my DreamBox 7020(S).

Still no rocket science, since the manual that comes with the DreamBox covers this as well, but maybe useful tips for newbies, or great to look at for people who are just curious about the DreamBox.

Checkout some of these DreamBox related website's:

www.dream-multimedia-tv.de (German/English Manufacturer website)
wiki.tuxbox.org (German)
dreambox.sjerom.com (Dutch)
www.sat-industry.net (English user forum)
www.dreamboxfornewbies.net or www.dbfn.tv (English/USA user forum) - Highly recommended for US users!
its.no-enigma.de (German developers forum)

But there are many, many, great other website's out there dealing with the DreamBox ... checkout Google for more links.

Note: Please read the disclaimer, specially with this topic where there can be a thin line between having fun experimenting and what is legal or not legal in your country. All the links and text are provided for fun and education - not to promote or stimulate satellite piracy or other illegal use!

Note: Most the examples are based on a DreamBox running the Nitro image - other images may respond differently.

How do I configure my DreamBox Harddisk?

Once you installed the harddisk in your DreamBox, you can continue by configuring your DreamBox to actually use the disk.

Configuration is fairly simple, no high tech input needed.

Step 1: Go to the DreamBox menu (press the menu button on your remote)

Step 2: Select the "Setup" option (usually number 6)

Step 3: Select "System Settings" from the Setup menu.

Step 4: Next select the "Harddisc Setup" option

Step 6: In the harddisk menu allows you to select the option "Format", so let's do that;

Step 7: Confirm this request by pressing the green button (or select the "Yes" box and press "OK").
Formatting takes a few minutes (very short time compared to what Windows would do!)

Step 8: Format results ... click the "Exit" button on your remote.

Step 9: You're done. The disk is formatted and can be found under /hdd when telnetting or FTP-ing to your DreamBox.
You can (if the image of your DreamBox includes Samba) also browse to this drive using your Windows PC. For this to work you might need an additional step: starting the Samba server.

Optional reading: Sharing the harddisk with your Windows PC(s).
